Another Hoop Dream
by Elsa Fernandez
Sepia gold bodies bend and twist,
legs and torsos in syncopated movement. Human spears hurtled by taut propulsion, reaching 120 inches into the air. Strong sinewy arms stretch high, elegant fingers reach to grab a Molten GL7 ball and touch the metal rim 10 feet up, as the nylon fringe jitters in excitement. We hold our breath, lean forward, feel the pulsating air, spin and spiral, ears attuned for that sweet swoosh, echoing along the 94 feet of gleaming burnished maple wood. Slick bodies like tall trees, uncoil and disjoin after winning and losing, flying to aerial heights. lean and lofty, like sycamores and sweetgums, pliable human saplings reaching to the sky. |
